Collecta wild animals: sable antelope The sable antelope mainly eats young or medium-high grass and herbs, but sometimes also eats leaves and shoots. The sable antelope has to drink every other day and will therefore rarely be found far from water. He is mainly active early in the morning, late in the afternoon and in the evening. The sable antelope lives in herds of ten to thirty animals, consisting of females and their calves. These herds belong to a larger group of around a hundred animals. Animals from different groups are aggressive towards each other. Males sometimes follow these groups, but usually live separately from females in territories. Males fight regularly with other males. They get down on their knees and struggle with their horns. Sometimes an animal is severely injured, but this is rare. He tries to keep a passing herd in his territory, where every female is covered in oestrus.
