Collecta horses: Shire foal The Shire is a horse breed from England. With an average height of 1.80 metres, the horses of this breed are among the largest in the world. The Shire is one of the cold blood breeds and is mainly used as a draught horse. Like the Clydesdale, the Shire is late. Its rapid growth in the first few years means that the bones and muscles are not fully mature and able to withstand the strain until later in life.
